AS Monaco – PSG (Trophée des Champions)
At the dusk of this Saturday, AS Monaco and PSG will decide who will take home the French Supercup, with the game taking place at the Stade de Tanger, in Tanger, Morocco. AS Monaco arrive here well prepared after having played six friendly matches during the pre-season, longing only one of them, and will now try to take advantage of a possible PSG’s physical tiredness. PSG, on their turn, have only played three friendly matches and arrive here after a tiring trip back from the United States, where played in the International Champions Cup, without winning a single match during the 90 min.
AS Monaco arrive here after winning the so long wanted Ligue 1 title, the first time since 1990/91, dethroning PSG of the french champion tittle. Their last season was amazing, with the monegasques turning out to be a very pleasant surprise in the Champions League, where they reached the semi-finals. For this season, coach Leonardo Jardim will try to win the Ligue 1 once again, and go as far as possible through the Champions League.
The Red and Whites showed a huge offensive power last year, finishing the season as one of the most goalscoring teams in Europe. The french side lost some of their last year’s key-players, such as Bernardo Silva, Benjamin Mendy, Bakayoko and Germain, so it is a fact that they are weakened, even with the have reinforced themselves with the youngster central defender Terence Kongolo, and with Youri Tielemans, central midfielder. The monegasques face a tired PSG side,and will try to take as most advantage of it as possible.
In their last 5 friendly matches, AS Monaco has a record of 1 victory, 3 draws and 1 defeat. This sequence of results started with 2-2 draw against Rapid Wien. This pre-season, the Parisians have only played three friendly matches, all of them in the International Champions Cup which took place in the United States, where they faced AS Roma, Tottenham and Juventus, winning only against AS Roma in a penalty shootout. Their last match was at the dawn of this Thursday, so it is natural that the players might be accusing some physical tiredness, taking into consideration that it is a long flight and they didn’t hd enough time to rest. Even so, the Parisians will do their best to lift this trophy and to firmly re-establish themselves as title favourites.
In their only 3 friendly matches, PSG has a record of 1 draw and 2 defeats. This sequence of results started with a 1-1 draw against AS Roma, following a 2-4 defeat against Tottenham and a 2-3 defeat against Juventus.
