Italy – Uruguay (International Friendlies)

Italy national team and Uruguay national team will face each other on Wednesday at the Allianz Riviera, in Nice, in a friendly match. The Blues arrive here after two consecutive friendly matches, wining both, against Nehterlands and San Marino, and this will be their last friendly encounter before facing Liechtenstein, for the Group G 6th round of the 2018 World Cup qualification. Uruguay, on their turn, arrive here in awful form and after a disappointing defeat against Republic of Ireland, with the Uruguayans needing to improve their form before starting their respective matches for the 2018 World Cup qualification.

Italy have already played three matches since the beginning of 2017, wining all of them, with two friendly matches, against Netherlands and San Marino, and the other against Albania, for the Group G 5th round of the 2018 World Cup qualification. In that Group G, Italy is 2nd placed with 13 points, the same amount of points than leader Spain, both undefeated, so it is absolutely imperative for the Italian side to win all the upcoming matches in the Group G.

The Blue’s next match will be against Liechtenstein, in Italy, and despite being a theoretically easy match, the Italians will need to win by a comfortable margin, in order of starting to work in improving their goal margin in case of finish the Groups Stage with the same points than Spain. Italy have a very talented squad, with most players representing Italian teams, except Darmian and Gabbiadini, Manchester United and Southampton players. Their backbone is very strong, with goal-keepers like Buffon and Donnarumma, defenders like Bonucci, Chiellini and Barzagli, all of them from Juventus, a very solid and consistent midfield with De Rossi, Montolivo and Marchisio, and a very young and talented attack, with El Shaarawy and Belotti.

In their last 5 matches, Italy has a record of 4 victories and 1 draw. This sequence of results started with a 0-4 victory over Liechtenstein. This result was followed by a 0-0 draw against Germany, friendly match, a 2-0 victory over Albania, a 1-2 victory over Netherlands, friendly match, and in their last match, a 8-0 victory over San Marino, friendly match. The Juventus players that were involved in the Champions League final have joined up with the Italy squad ahead of this match but it would be a surprise to see Gian Piero Ventura call on their services here.

Probable Lineup: Donnarumma – Astori, Caldara and Darmian – Conti, Rossi, Montolivo and Spinazzola – El Shaarawy, Belotti and Insigne.

amigaveisinternacionaisUruguay, on their turn, disputed their first friendly match of the year against Northern Ireland, losing 3-1, after losing their only two official matches played this year, against Brasil and Peru, for the 2018 World Cup qualification. The Uruguayans will now face an opponent with greater organization an quality, so they can surely expect a tough match here. In the South American qualification matches for the 2018 World Cup, La Celeste are 3rd placed with 23 points, the same amount of points the 4th placed Chile, and only 3 points above 6th placed Equator, so a great improvement in their form is very needed or they can easily drop from qualification spots.

In their last 5 matches, Uruguay has a record of 1 victory and 4 defeats. This sequence of results started with a 2-1 victory over Equator. This result was followed by a 3-1 against Chile, a 1-4 defeat against Brazil, a 2-1 defeat against Peru, and in their last match, a 3-1 defeat against Northern Ireland.

Probable Lineup: Muslera – Pereira, Giménez, Coates and Silva – Sánchez, González, Rios, Vecino and Rodríguez – Stuani.

Uruguay has won 2 of their last 4 direct confronts on the last 15 years, drawing the other 2.
